Free iPhone app turns street maps into a Pac-Man game
Waze may not be the best iPhone navigation app on the App Store, but its developers have found one great use for those street maps. Ever wondered what it would be like pulling a Pac-Man on the streets? Now you can give it a shot.

With its new “Street Goodies” feature, you’ll find fruit icons right on the maps, just like how Pac-Man gets his fruity treats. You’ll earn points for the fruits you chew up, but Waze developers will get something out of it as well. As they put it:
For instance, if there’s an area where we detect a disconnect in two streets on the map, we’ll place a goodie over there in what we believe is the point of intersection. Then, when someone heads over to munch the ‘goodie’, it will solve the disconnect, telling the Waze system that these two streets do indeed intersect.
On one hand, smart move. Why waste resources getting people to go on-site when your users can “help” you out? On the other hand, it’s like being tricked into free labor. Like what Little Dot here is doing:
Well, app’s free anyway, so maybe if you’re in the fruity area, might as well…
