The Xbox Live police sure know how to act fast. Unfortunately, even those who were innocent of Achievements transgressions had to be casualties of said fight against online cheating. In case you’re not yet aware, the Gamerscores on XBL have been totally reset. But before you take out your pitchforks and march down to the Microsoft offices, hear Stephen Toulouse out.

According to him, “A couple of weeks ago… we did a Gamerscore reset pass on several Gears of War 2 players who had illegitimately toggled the ‘Level 100’ Achievement for a map pack that had just come out.” How did they know the scores they were raking up were illegitimate? For one, the speed by which they were earning their achievements were impossible, to put it simply. For two, well, it’s not like these guys weren’t given ample warning.

“Any time you earn an Achievement you don’t actually have to earn, that’s against the terms of use.” They’re serious about keeping gameplay clean and green, so to all you cheaters who brought this upon us all: Boo you! And as for the innocent casualties, Toulous said every person is just as “responsible” for taking care of the console and its online representation.
