Figuratively, because the superhuman force (which is you, the gamer) rids the streets of heavily-armed thugs and gangs, and quite literally, because you can pick up virtually anything off the streets and use it as a weapon. So, if you're really creative in weaponry, you can turn street trash into destructive artillery.
Crackdown is unique in this sense because as compared to other games where you create the mess on the streets (or wherever the game is set), here you get to do the opposite. But, don't get me wrong, it's not all about cleaning up, there's still a lot of shoot 'em up action, racing, role playing and real time strategy. Lots of bloodshed and heads being blown off -- you know, good old gore.
Crackdown is set to be released in Autumn of 2006 and won't be out in Europe until 2007.
