From the underground: DOL Tool 3 – Wii hack conversion from .DOL to .ELF
Yeah we know, it’s not exactly a breakthrough but it’s 25% there, and a fourth of the way is a really good thing. Well, that is if there’s anyone already at work on the remaining 75%. News from the weaving nethers of the Internet have unveiled a Windows-based conversion utility. It’s got hack written all over it, because just as the author says, it converts GameCube games in .DOL format into Nintendo Wii-compatible .ELF format.
At the French Wii Gen Forums, we discovered that a Windows-based executable, called DOL Tool 3, that converts .DOL GameCube ROMs to Wii-friendly .ELF files was released. ELF files are basically executable and by theory could be run after you’ve crashed your Nintendo Wii via the Twilight Hack.
Of course, that’s in theory. A direct convert doesn’t ensure that the .ELF file is 100% Wii-compatible – it only makes it accessible on the Wii. And though the conversion process may look like a direct renaming, the author claims that your target GameCube game undergoes a genuine conversion process.
You might want to test this for yourself, so head on over to the Forums via the source link below to better understand the instructions. Basically, all you have to do is download the archive, extract it to a manageable folder on your desktop, navigate to it via command line, and execute doltool.exe by typing “doltool.exe -e [gamecube-filename.dol]”. Of course, you’ll have to have the target file in the same directory.
