Futuremark Corporation has announced that a game division has been formed under its corporate umbrella named Futuremark Games Studios. The new game development arm of the Finnish company will soon place its own bid for next-generation gaming. This is certainly something many customers and fans thought Futuremark should have done years ago.

“For years, our fans have been asking us when will we start making games. Very soon they are going to get it – and then some!” said Tero Sarkkinen, CEO of Futuremark Corporation. Sarkinnen said that the new game studio will seek for original intellectual property, with their own mix of gameplay and “blow-your-socks-off” visuals.

The 3DMark series have been the company’s most sought after benchmark for gamer and enthusiast PC users, as well as being a gauge of just how much bang for the buck the latest PC hardware can actually deliver. If truth be told, some rendering segments of the 3DMark series have served as inspiration for some PC games, though the similarities won’t be apparent until visual comparison is made.

Are we seeing a second Remedy Entertainment in the making? If the moves Remedy – founded by members of defunct group Future Crew – made from Final Reality to Max Payne and Alan Wake warrant any significant note, then Futuremark – also founded by other members of Future Crew – might be just the refreshing breeze the PC gaming scene has been looking for. More developments on this as they roll in.
