Game designer Peter Molyneux speaks on Fable 2
Lionhead Studios‘ Fable 2 is a game that many gamers have been watching out for. However, news regarding this title have been few and far between.
Thankfully, world renowned game designer Peter Molyneux recently discussed the changes that will be implemented in the game at the Develop Conference in Brighton, and you might be pleased at what this genius has to say.
Among the major things that will be revamped in the game is the combat system. Molyneux noted that sequels usually upgrade features or offer new levels but Lionhead wants to change that trend. However, this isn’t an easy thing to accomplish as they plan on creating a combat system that even beginners won’t have a hard time picking up.
The new combat system was described by Molyneux as a “deep, sophisticated combat model.” What may shock you though is the fact that this system only uses one button. He then went on to say that so many developers worry about button mashing, and that they [Lionhead] also disdain it.
That said, gamers will still be able to complete the game with button mashing though it will take longer, they won’t be granted the same power-ups, and their in-game skills will be limited. On the other end of the spectrum, the hardcore gamer will be able to finish it faster while looking more stylish throughout the game due to the upgraded moves.
It sounds like a pretty tall order, for any game. Still, I’ve learned from experience that when Peter Molyneux says he’s going to do something, he pulls it off. Will he be working his magic on this game as well? We’ll have to wait and see when it comes out.
