Game developers leaving PS3 for Xbox 360?

PS3Are you still smarting for being one of the many who didn’t get a PS3? Here’s something that might lift your gaming spirit – there aren’t too many games (outside ports) for the PS3 right now – or so Opposable Thumbs seems to imply: “sometimes it just doesn’t pay to be an early adopter.”

According to the site, the low supply of PS3 consoles have not only frustrated consumers. The shortage has forced game publishers and developers to re-think their plans of releasing PS3 exclusives.

Fatal Inertia and Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War from Koei have reportedly defected to Xbox 360. We haven’t confirmed this yet, though.

But if the buzz is true that game developers are shifting to Xbox 360, it’s not because the don’t like the PS3.

It’s just that there are so few PS3 units out there right now (298,340), so game developers think they won’t get as much money from a PS3 game. In contrast, an Xbox 360 exclusive title has a larger base (7,477,762 sold) so they will sell more. It’s just your basic law of supply and demand at work.

The drought of PS3 titles (and hopefully, consoles) is not forever though. There will be more consoles sold, and by March 2007 a deluge of PS3 titles will be coming our way.

And then there’s Fatal Inertia and Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War which despite rumors are still listed as PS3 titles.
