Game Informer Talks Wii with Nintendo

Matt Atwood, Nintendo of America Public Relations Manager, talked with Game Informer about the new name for Nintendo’s next-gen console, the Nintendo Wii. Like Perrin Kaplan, he talks about how it sounds weird now, but it will become as used as Virgin and Yahoo. Of course, the fact that I still think Virgin is a flaky name isn’t helping here… It seems they revealed the Nintendo Wii name now so that it sinks in by the press conference where we’ll need the energy to focus on the new announcements. Basically, Atwood tries to tell us that Wii is perfect for the system because of all the things explained in the writeup that was revealed earlier today. However, why in the world does it have to be explained? A name should be all it needs. Other than that, all they had were “wii” jokes like this one…

GI: (laughs) The name Wii makes me think of peeing!  You said you have to hold the DS like a book for Brain Age, I hate to know how IÂ’m supposed to hold the Wii controller.

Atwood: IÂ’m not going to go there, but you wonÂ’t be surprised.  When you look at it, thereÂ’s so many different things you can do.  But come to E3 and you will appreciate it.
