Gamers give game reviewers the thumbs down

thumbsA new report says gamers don’t care much about what game critics have to say. According to the report, a game’s rating have little effect on its sales.

“The impact review scores have on predicting sales is not as significant as previously thought. Obviously, it does impact sales, but there are far more useful indicators such as when the game is released, the franchiseÂ’s history,” says Jason Kraft of SIG, the research company that made the report.

Despite the results of the survey, SIG said game reviews are probably here to stay. The report claims many investors have learned to rely on game reviews and game ratings can make or break developers. The game industry also considers game ratings as its very reason for living.

But as one writer once said, “A bad review is even less important than whether it is raining in Patagonia”.
