Games Not Supported By Xbox 360 External HD-DVD Drive
Microsoft Taiwan has issued a statement regarding the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive. The statement was given out in response to queries raised by Taiwan-based developers of on-line PC and console games regarding the extent of use of the said drive.
According to MS Taiwan, the HD-DVD drive is to be used with its Xbox 360 game console only to merely play back HD-DVD movies, and not to support games on HD-DVD. Though the Xbox 360 itself enables game software to attain high-resolution video performance, the external HD-DVD drive does not support games as such may affect the costs by increasing it, as well as decreasing the stability of game software.
Game developers from Taiwan believe that blue-laser support for games is the key for the Xbox 360 to be competitive with the Sony PS3, which will feature a built-in Blu-ray Disc (BD). Disappointed that the external drive will not support games, these developers feel un-welcomed by the HD-DVD interest group.
