Gamestation kicks off Wii UK launch
Boy, Gamestation and Nintendo really do know how to pull off a Wii launch event.
Hundreds of gamers waited in line for the much-aniticipated console from Nintendo, counting off the hours ’til the clock strikes midnight. Errr no, contrary to might you think, they were not Cinderella hopefuls. You see, Gamestation was scheduled to open its doors to the eager Wii fans at midnight. And we’re not talking about the one in Birmingham or Edinburgh here. Last (mid)night, 200 Gamestation stores welcomed Wii fans not only with their prized consoles, but also with food, models, and fun Wii competitions. Sounds fun, eh?
Moreover, two lucky Birmingham residents were able to score an “exclusive preview” of the event by winning a contest sponsored by local readio station Kerrang. Peter Hall emerged the “Wii champ” after beating his opponent in Wii games. Hall was given a goodie bag, together with the console, not to mention food served by models.
Gamestation spokesperson Martyn Gibbs says, “Anticipation was at fever pitch and we offered gamers entertainment and food to keep them going in the final moments before the doors opened. We were also the only store in the UK to have Mario on the big screen, which was a major bonus for fans and brought out a cheer from gamers.”
The Wii is available in UK for £179.99.
