GameStop begins halting HD-DVD movie trade-ins

GameStop begins halting HD-DVD movie trade-ins - Image 1Retailers appear to be taking measures in light of Toshiba‘s recent announcement of their plans to axe the HD-DVD format.

We’ve picked up word that at least one store chain has already begun disallowing customers from trading in their HD-DVD movies. Details are in the full article.

GameStop no longer taking HD DVD trades, possibly not taking 360 HD DVD drive either

Aside from Toshiba‘s announcement earlier, it seems that the retailers have begun sounding the death knells of Microsoft HD-DVD format disc. Word on the street is that retailer GameStop will no longer be accepting HD-DVD movies as trade-ins.

It’s not just the flicks that are getting axed either – Some GameStop stores have reportedly stopped accepting the Xbox 360’s external HD-DVD Drive as a trade-in as well. The retailer is further expected to halt 360 HD-DVD drive trade-ins at all their store outlets by later today (February 20).

The good news is that there’s speculation that the GameStop will be dropping the HD-DVD drive’s price. Be sure to keep an eye in case we pick up any similar news from the other retail outlets. You may also want to call your local stores to confirm this news.
