GameStop soon to offer Rewards Program

gsI’ve been getting all my games from the same store since Mario knows when. Would’ve loved some form of a membership discount or whatnot, but unfortunately for me, they don’t have any of those. For GameStop, that’s about to change. The retailer is phasing out the old Edge Card for the new PowerUp Rewards Pro card, which offers you more than the former did.

gscI’ve been getting all my games from the same store since Mario knows when. Would’ve loved some form of a membership discount or whatnot, but unfortunately for me, they don’t have any of those. For GameStop, that’s about to change. The retailer is phasing out the old Edge Card for the new PowerUp Rewards Pro card, which offers you more than the former did.

The Edge Card gives you a 10% discount on used stuff, plus a 10% trade-in bump. The new card gives you that, plus a new rewards points system that gives you points for every purchase. Every dollar you spend on new merchandise earns you 10 points, while it’s 20 points if you buy used goods. Up to 500 bonus points will also be given away upon activation, upon setting up your Game Library online, and even as a free birthday treat.

According to a GameStop rep that contacted Kotaku, “”The rewards range from coupons for $5-$10 off purchases ranging from 4000 to 8000 points to even free Xbox 360 controllers or Turtle Beach X11 headsets for 40,000 points. Us employees get 4000 points to start off with, enough to purchase a $5 off a used game coupon or PS3 real triggers!”

That sounds like a hell lot of points to earn, but if you’re a regular anyway, you should benefit from the program. It’s currently in a beta-testing stage and isn’t quite ready for a nationwide launch just yet.

For more info on which locations are beta testing and other terms of service, you can check them out at GameStop’s promotional site.
