Salem Oregon prison’s population has jumped from 12,000 to more than 13,000 yet over the past 3 years the in prison violence has decreased slightly. Could this be because of the incentive programs the prison implemented. After 18 months of good behavior inmates are allowed to purchase video game consoles for $35 with 50 pre-loaded games. Although we might not agree with this idea of punishment it seems to be keeping the inmates occupied and out of trouble.
