Vietnam follows China, imposes ban on gaming ads, curfew on Internet shops

Recently, the Vietnameses Ministry of Information and Communications has also imposed a new regulation that would cut off overneight public internet acess in businesses, as well as a banning of advertisements of online games.

Recently, the Vietnameses Ministry of Information and Communications has also imposed a new regulation that would cut off overneight public internet acess in businesses, as well as a banning of advertisements of online games.

The banning is to be put in place while new regulations on gaming is still pending. Concern is growing in the country that video games strongly affect the youth, and it is the government’s hope that they be able to put a stop to violent-themed games, gambling and pornographic content.

As of late, more and more have been pointing their fingers at video games for the increase in juvenile crime, school truancy, and of course, gaming addiction.

A recent survey was conducted by the Ministry of Education and Training and it was found that 70 to 76 percent of the respondents made up of primary school children admited to playing online games on weekdays. However, 100% of the respondents claimed to play during weekends. As per Vietnam’s new policy, Internet shops and cafes will not have online access from 11PM to 6AM.
