Gaming while driving soon to be illegal in New York state
While common sense would tell you to leave your PSP be while you’re doing 80 across the highway, the senate has gotten up to take extra steps to make sure that you won’t make that potentially fatal mistake. A new bill has just been passed, and it will soon be illegal in New York state to text, browse the net, or play video games while driving.
This new bill, which slaps a fine of up to US$ 150 on violators who are caught texting, chatting on the phone, surfing, or gaming while driving, was passed by an overwhelming majority in legislation. The use of the cellphone while driving is already illegal in the state, so this bill widens the scope of portable electronics included in the ban.
This bill will also make it a bit tougher to secure driver’s licenses. Applicants must have their learner’s permit for at least six months and complete 50 hours of supervised driving before they can apply for the regular license.
And in case you were wondering, returning a message while you’re stuck in traffic counts. So keep that phone tucked safely away while you’re behind the wheel.
