Garp has expressed his opinion in an article on the current state of the scene. Here is a clip of the article, the link to the full article is below:

I’m not writing this as a mod of PSPUpdates. It’s just an incidental. I’m writing this as someone who has in many ways grown up with the hacking scene and has always followed it with great interest. And now I’m beginning to watch it with great shame and embarassment.

In the past five years, the hacking/homebrew/dev scene has really deteriorated and I am frankly sick and tired of it. After fourty years of illustrious progress and amazing ingenuity, it’s come down to a bunch of elitists who hoard their information and shun anyone that wants to come up with a new concept. You have to know someone to have access to any kind of information and any other attempt to discover it on your own is more likely to blow up in your face than to help you. Guess what, guys. That’s not what it’s about.

There are always going to be brats, such as those associated with mygot, on the peripheral, but they shouldn’t be placed on center stage. They definitely shouldn’t be imitated on a larger scale! There is such a layer of paranoia and such a sense of “ownership” at this point that it’s amazing that any dev will talk to any other dev at all! Corporate espionage has nothing on what is going on now, with one group leaking to another group to have it be released by yet a third group. And for what? Cred? Points? Bullcrap.
