Gas Powered Games’ secret project revealed: Demigod
There’s big news in upcoming games for 2008, and this one comes in the form of one of Gas Powered Games‘ latest, secret projects known only as Demigod. Initial details and the game’s actual title was recently spilled, though more will come in the latest issue of Games for Windows Magazine, prompting a definite release for the PC action/RTS/RPG player. But some clues point that Demigod may come to consoles, too. More at the full story.
In the February 2008 issue of Games for Windows Magazine, Gas Powered Games finally revealed one of their several secret projects currently being shaped up in the garage. And it was also said that Demigod, an action title with role playing (RPG) and real time strategy (RTS) elements, was inspired by the popular Warcraft III multiplayer modification known better as DotA – short for Defense of the Ancients.
Now though GPG’s Chris Taylor claims that the studio’s future game design will reflect his stand on difficult games, Demigod‘s initial gameplay description sounds amazingly like DotA – only this time, it’s a fully-fledged commercial release.
DotA Allstars is perhaps the most popular form of the Warcraft III mod, since official support from Blizzard Entertainment allowed the game to propel itself into a gaming phenomenon in Asia. Though DotA flourished in the West, its multiplayer mayhem grew prominently in the East. It’s currently a staple game entry to most Asian gaming tournaments, as well as the most played LAN game in some countries.
According to GPG, Demigod gives the player command of a hero, who may be developed further by annihilating opposing monsters and heroes to gain experience. Leveling up abilities becomes the only way the hero can survive stronger enemy waves, as well as best other heroes’ in single combat.
In every clash, the hero will have the ability to control allied troops, as well as create buildings to support the hero’s efforts. Every hero has a strength and weakness, as well as their own special powers to wield against foes. Some heroes may be best used with their demigod powers, while some will fare better with troop and building support.
More will be revealed on “non-genre-specific” (perhaps the same non-genre specific “console title” hinted before) Demigod once the February issue of Games for Windows Magazine is out, but stay tuned for updates till then.
