GDC 09: new God of War III footage shows cyclops QTE riding

God of War 3 - Image 1Over at the GDC event, Kratos made his presence felt via a God of War III gameplay demo video. It’s not a direct feed, but at least for some off-cam footage, it’s clear enough to distinguish what’s going on. Here we have him pulling a Niko Bellic and hijacking that poor hulking cyclops for a ride. Now we can see what Todd Papy was talking about yesterday! Rawr!

As you can notice, in order for you to ride a cyclops, you have to initiate and follow through a QTE sequence. Successfully doing that allows you to control the cyclops as you mash buttons and lay waste on the horde of enemies on screen.

It’s interesting to see how the QTE buttons pop up though: for a change, they now show up on the screen in relative location of the control pad layout. To me, that’s a good thing. Squares appear on the left side of the screen, Circle on the right, etc… I’m not sure if this is going to be applied for all QTE sequences or only specific to rideables.
