GDC 2007: Funcom working on new 360-PC MMO title
Age of Conan is hardly Funcom‘s last foray into crossover (Xbox 360–PC) gaming. Firing Squad reports that while demoing Age during GDC 2007, Project Director Jorgen Tharaldsen mentioned that the company was already developing another crossover-platform MMO title.
Although the press didn’t get a chance to see the title – only the publishers did in some velvet rope invite-only briefing – some details were made available:
- uses the same graphics engine as Age of Conan (which probably means DX10 capability on the PC);
- takes place in present-day Earth, which is actually a change in pace from all those fantasy MMOs clogging up the pipes.
Could this unnamed title be a Dreamfall MMO? On the one hand, that sudden infusion of money from the Norwegian government could propel the franchise in new directions. On the other hand, it’s not exactly “present-day Earth;” future/fantasy, yes, but not exactly present-day.
