GDC 2007: Old Wiimote prototypes slideshow

Now we’ve been pretty enthralled by the sole reason the Nintendo Wii is just leading other consoles: the Wii wireless remote. We’ve always been exclaiming just how innovative it is, how great it is for exergaming and your health, and just how fun it is to watch folk show how they play with the Wiimote.

But did you ever stop to ponder just how many controller concepts Nintendo sifted through just to come out with the Wiimote. Well, if your answer is no (ours is for sure), then here’s a little idea of their options for the final Wiimote brought to you by Game Videos. Now we’ve covered these before, but now it’s been presented at the Game Developers Conference as a slideshow.

We’re glad they picked something pretty decent. That star gadget looked like something picked up at Tonka Toys. It makes us think how funny businessmen would look with it. But you gotta admit, that black controller (second to the last) looks pretty wicked – it having the feature of the right half being rotate-able. Of course, the Wii would’ve needed a big theme overhaul. We wonder how it would work though. All because of the Wiimote, everyone’s trying their hand at innovating controllers for the Wii.
