GDC 2007 rumors: Crytek working on a PS3 title?

Crytek wants to PLAY B3YOND? - Image 1PlayStation Universe (PSU) ran a little Part II to whispers that Crytek‘s looking at the direction of Sony‘s new-gen console. Last time, they said, they found a little ad that was asking for PS3 console programmers. This time, the PSU people tried hitting the horse in the mouth with the question: are you guys working on anything for the PS3?

And the horse – er, the Crytek team – replied: “I really wish I could tell you more right now,” and “We are always working on lots of different things.” We’ll cite PSU’s warnings here, too: this ain’t concrete confirmation of anything, it’s just theory and hypothesis and adding too many 2 + 2’s and hoping it leads us (both PSU and us here) somewhere.

But look at it this way: lately Crytek’s been busting at the seams. On the one hand, hopes suddenly rose when an interview with a Crytek developer was (mis)interpreted to imply that a Crysis-related game would hit the Xbox 360 – until EA said it ain’t happening. Yet recently, there are other rumors that EA is farming the Crysis CryEngine 2 around, particularly to the Command & Conquer EALA Studios. And then this.

Okay, so maybe the PS3 can handle Crysis, or maybe it can’t. But – and I’m just spitballing here, so I make no promises – who’s interested in seeing a Command & Conquer: Renegade sequel or spin-off on the PS3? Hey, just spitballing here.

(Oh yeah. Have to get to writing a letter now. “Dear Crytek and EALA…”)
