GDC 2007: very few PSP owners have a DS
Sony‘s John Koller, Senior Marketing Manager, revealed during the blogging panel held at the Game Developers Conference 2007 that according to research only eleven to fourteen percent of PSP owners have a DS. This despite the fact that “the DS prints money.“
This basically underscores the sentiment that despite game-centric opinion, Sony’s handheld device is definitely targeting a different market from Nintendo. Koller says: “We’re not just competing against Nintendo.” Okay, so just what exactly does the PSP have to compete with then? Well, there’s the Zune, there’s the iPod, and the iPhone (that will supposedly have games from EA), and a whole assortment of other multimedia devices.
So given this statistic, what’s Sony’s plan to help the PSP along? Koller hints that the XMB will be a bit more robust in the coming months. PlayStation Home integration perhaps?
