GDC 2008: Emotiv to introduce SDK for brainwave-based controller headset
Emotiv Systems has sent word that they will be introducing the beta build of their mind-controlled headset’s SDK at the upcoming Game Developer Conference in San Francisco.
While the SDK won’t be released until a month later, Emotiv’s lecture should give visitors an idea of what the company’s new tech will offer. Details are available in the full article.
Now here’s an idea that could give Nintendo’s Wiimote a run for its money.
Emotiv Systems is sending word that they will holding a lecture over at the upcoming Game Developers Conference to introduce the Software Developer’s Kit for their Electroencephalography (EEG)-based headset controller.
The controller, earlier dubbed as Project Epoc, would literally allow players to control a game using their brain’s electrical signals. Emotiv’s headset was last featured during the GDC 2007. This update will enable designers to integrate their games into Emotiv’s experimental controller technology. The SDK is classified into three major components:
- Expressiv suite: Identify facial expressions in real-time
- Affectiv suite: Measures players’ discreet emotional states
- Cognitiv suite: Detects players’ conscious thoughts
The beta release of Emotiv’s SDK is expected to arrive this March. The company’s lecture is scheduled to take place from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. this February 21, in Room 2012, West Hall of the Moscone Theater in San Francisco.
