GDC 2008: PSP GPS accessory in action
It’s finally out: a demo of a Sony PlayStation Portable running the GPS accessory tool was displayed in the GDC 2008 event. We’ve heard about the GPS accessory for the PSP for some time now, but we haven’t actually seen it in action, until recently. Do hit the full article for the picture, and for more details as well.
We’ve heard about the GPS accessory for the Sony PlayStation Portable sometime last year, but we haven’t seen it in action yet. Until, of course, the recent GDC 2008 event. A devkit PSP was shown running the GPS software, demonstrating the Sony PSP’s capabilities as a GPS tool.
However, the results were somehow less than optimal. For some reason, the GPS program wasn’t able to pinpoint the exact location of the site (wrong street) but it was still a close estimate, nonetheless. The less-than-accurate GPS tracking was somehow blamed on the booth being underground, which may have blocked the GPS receiver from direct contact with satellites.
For those who aren’t aware, about seven GPS-enabled titles are already out in Japan, such as Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops+.
