GDC Iwata Keynote Summary, Zelda for DS announced
To make it short: Nintendo President Iwata didn’t have any really big news to tell (New Revolution name?), but the things he mentioned while holding his speech are still very interesting.
- A total of 5 million copies of Brain Age were sold across Japan.
(He celebrated this by giving everyone in the audience a free copy of the game and inviting Will Wright, Jamil Moledina and Geoff Keighley to play the game on stage with each other)
- Zelda is heading for the DS. The game will be called “Zelda: Phantom Hourglass”. Gameplay will be 2D with 3D graphics, and it will be shown alongside Twilight Princess at the upcoming E3.
- Revolution’s ‘Virtual Console’ service will also feature Mega Drive games
- He dislikes the way games are made currently: With bigger and bigger teams, licenses and huge marketing costs for a $50/$60 end product. “Our industry is starting to look like a bookstore where you can only buy expensive encyclopedia sets”.
So the real facts about Revolution will probably be revealed at E3 – nonetheless, his announcements are pretty promising. Let’s see what the future brings.
