Gears of War: Global Juggernaut
Apparently, Gears isn’t just a North American phenomenon. In a recent press release made by Epic Games, it was announced that Gears of War has gone triple platinum in the UK. That essentially means that 3 million units sold in just 10 weeks on store games.
The game has already garnered more than 20 nominations for game of the year. So global is the appeal of the game, that even in Japan, the game received a Platinum award from Famitsu magazine, putting the game shoulder to shoulder with Blue Dragon – a game that’s a shoe-in for the award.
Not only was the game hot, as skinny miss Hilton would say, but the advertising campaign for it got attention too. The Gears of War: Mad World cinematic trailer was featured in Advertising Age’s Book of Tens as one of the top creative concepts of 2006. The campaign not only inspired sales but also spawned a great number of parody videos on the Internet.
