Gears of War undergoes SDTV test
No, this isn’t about a battle between HDTV (High-definition television) or SDTV (Standard-definition television). It’s just a question of how many of us actually play using HDTV. In reality, not all gamers use HDTV. Next-gen games, on the other hand, are made to look good on HDTV. In fact, some Xbox 360 games weren’t even tested on SDTV. So, if King Kong and Dead Rising don’t look too good on your SDTV, it’s because major developers haven’t really tested them on SDTV.
Ever imagined Gears of War looking marvelous on your SDTV? Be thankful to Epic Games, as they’re now testing the game on SDTV to make sure it doesn’t suffer the same bumps that most other games have encountered. Of course, a lot of HDTV owners are either going to ignore this bit of news because it doesn’t really concern them. But, like we said, majority of gamers (even if they’re sick for next-gen platforms) don’t own HDTVs, so this is a kind of a retroactive breakthrough for everyone.
We can’t be more grateful to Epic Games for this thoughtful idea.
