Get into Games Developers Conference 2007 for less
You’ve probably heard of the CMP’s Game Developers Conference in ‘Frisco, right? That’s where the best and the brightest of the video gaming industry meet and talk about important issues on the future of the industry, as well as share their knowledge to newcomers.
For gamers, it’s also a chance at seeing stuff before everyone else, from some of the earlier news and confirmations on the PSP to PS3 videos. Unfortunately, it’s also one of those places where you either need a lot of cash or a pass from the GDC 2007 online contest to be a part of. Of course, that all changes if you actually work for the the CMP Game Group, right?
Well, here’s a tip for all the budding game devs, marketers, game music composers and story writers in our community from all of us at QJ. You can volunteer to be a part of the GDC as a conference associate (CA)
Think of it as another contest. Better yet, take it as a chance at a scholarship to an important yearly event that could get you into the world of gaming as a career. All you have to do is register at the GDC website and follow up that email, and then hope you’re qualified for their tasks. The goods you get for volunteering are simple:
- Full Giga pass privileges when not on-duty
- Reduced hotel costs by sharing rooms with other CAs, if desired
- A big group of interesting friends (or soon-to-be friends) from inside and out of the game industry to hang out with in the CA Lounge
You may have to work for your chance at seeing the goods GDC 2007 has to offer, but it also means you can pay a heck of a lot less than 3,000 bucks to get in. For game blogs who’re hoping to get the scoop without paying an arm and a leg, this is also a great alternative. In any case, don’t forget to try out, and maybe we’ll see you in San Francisco next year.
