Getafirstlife blogger gets un-served

Who says lawyers don’t have a sense of humor? Apparently, the legal counsels at Linden Lab are by no means humor-impaired.

Darren Barefoot, creator of the Second Life parody site – GetaFirstLife.com – has received an un-cease and desist letter from a Linden Lab lawyer, Ginsu Yoon. It was posted as a comment, since the parody site welcomed “comments or cease-and-desist letters”. Alex Yenni, a Linden Lab representative, confirmed the letter as genuine.

At first glance the letter is the usual legal mumbo jumbo you’d expect to receive from a lawyer of a ginormous corporation. Until the letter says: “Linden Lab is well-known for having strict hiring standards, including a requirement for having a sense of humor, from which our lawyers receive no exception… In conclusion, your invitation to submit a cease-and-desist letter is hereby rejected.” Plus, Barefoot received a “nonexclusive, nontransferable, nonsublicenseable, revocable, limited license” for the use of the modified Second Life logo on GetaFirstLife merchandise.

It’s good to know that some gigantinormous companies have a sense of humor.
