Getting into more of Hour of Victory

Midway - Image 1Midway and nFusions’ new WWII shooter to run on the Unreal 3 engine for the Xbox 360 and maybe even the DX10-capable PC, is now more vividly detailed by GameSpot in their first-hand experience of a demo for the Xbox 360.

With some people flagging it as a contender to Call of Duty, the game does have its newer features, including characters that develop as you play them. Ricardo Torres of GameSpot finds that you can play as either American OSS Operative Major Ambrose Taggert, an infiltration specialist; British SAS Commando Lieutenant William Ross, an assault specialist; or U.S. Army Ranger Sergeant Calvin Blackbull, a sniper. By selecting any one character, the mission gameplay takes a slightly different view and twist, given that each character has their own special skills. No details on that yet, though.

What does Hour of Victory have that sets it apart from CoD? Well from the demo gameplay, GS found they could only play Taggert and Ross. CoD fans would easily get into Ross’s character and gameplay, as he is the “shoot and run for cover” kind of guy. Taggert on the other hand loves the stealth and stabbing “people in the back.” All characters can pick up and use any weapon they come across, although Taggert’s gameplay is deliciously sneaky.

The demo level, entitled Evacuation, is an intense fallback scenario through Africa. Summarized, you’ll be gun-running through the streets, capturing a gun nest, manning an AA gun to fend off bombers, and commanding a Sherman to face the incoming Tigers (wait…won’t Tigers just recycle the little Sherman?). As previously made known, rally points are available in the level, where characters could be changed.
