Girls want free stuff with their games. Oh really?

So you thnk you know everything, huh? While trolling around teh intarwebs, we came across this little piece on IGN that talked about a recent survey titled “Customer Focus Tech Savvy”.

Apart from having a title that sounds like bad Engrish (or is “bad Engrish” a misnomer?), the survey revealed some determining factors in where some elusive demographics choose to buy videogames. The demographics in question are Generation Y females, parents, and “adults.” The survey considers you part of Generation Y if you were born between 1977 and 1994.

Anyway, according to the survey, Generation Y females listed “special offers like free items or discounts” as the most important factor in determining where to make videogame purchases, with a total of 32% of the respondents choosing it.

Parents said they choose the store that has the newest games in stock while “total adults” split on stores that had the best selection and the newest games. Check out the image below to see the figures for yourselves.

Customer Focus Tech Savvy Survey

Okay, so this survey just found out that girls want free stuff with their games. Whoa! I didn’t know that! What a surprising development! Mmmkay. I mean, c’mon, who doesn’t want free stuff with their videogames? Guy or girl, gender doesn’t matter when it comes to free stuff – unless of course if the freebies themselves are gender-specific. Also (and this is based on personal observation so please, no flames. I’m not being a sexist ass here), most girls normally gravitate towards stuff that they can get for a bargain, hence the popularity of the “Sale” phenomenon.

What’s really telling here though is that “Helpful and knowledgeable sales staff” ranked pretty low on all the demographics. We’re guessing it’s either people are getting more and more familiar with the games that they want to buy or people have finally lost all hope in ever meeting the fabled “helpful and knowledgeable sales staff person.”
