Gmax2PSP – Easily Create Your Own 3D Models For the PSP

Many gamers enjoy “modding” their games by importing their own props into the game environment. This is very common, and relatively easy to do, with PC games such as The Sims 2, because of the relative abundance of third-party utilities designed for this purpose.  Gamers using the PlayStation – particularly PSP – haven’t had these resources, and wind up having to code in their models by hand.

If your game is gmax® enabled, a new “gmax2psp” script can simplify the process immeasurably. First, you’ll need Gmax, by Discreet Software. This is a free 3D modeler that allows gamers to create their own content for  game titles such as Flight Simulator, Trainz and Train Simulator, Renegade, Dungeon Siege and others. The modeler is available for free download here.

The new gmax2psp script was coded by QJ.net Forum member alatnet. Here are the instructions:

1. Start gmax.
2. Click on the Utilities Tab thats at the left of the screen. The Utilities tab has a picture of a hammer.
3. Click the MAXscript button. Its at the end of the list.
4. Important, you must click the Open Listener button. If you dont, then the script will not be able to convert the models for the psp.
5. Click Run Script and open gmax2psp.ms file, where ever you have extracted it.
6. Click and select gmax2psp under the Utilities dropdown box.
7. Click Export Lua Structure to convert the models to lua.
8. open the program GrabListener.exe that is included in the compressed file. The GrabListener program copies everything that is in the listener to a file.

Be sure that  models you want to show are in lua code, and are linked to a model named frame.
