Godzilla: Unleashed developers talk about Krystalak
Pipeworks Software knows that Godzilla: Unleashed is all about the monsters. The producer of the game Shelby Stair Willis confirmed this notion in their developers blog as he recently detailed how they designed Krystalak, one of the monsters they’re introducing in the game.
Amazingly, this is the first monster not designed by Toho, the creators of Godzilla. The developers had a long history with the company since they did work together on the previous two Godzilla games. Because of this they were given the chance to add their own creation to the Toho line-up of monsters.
Willis said that they wanted to create the monster to be specifically tied into the storyline of Godzilla: Unleashed. Since the game’s storyline revolves around crystals, Krystalak was created as a crystal monster. To strengthen its connection to the crystals, the developers decided that it was spawned by the same meteor shower that started the strange crystal growths all over the world.
The developers went though a couple of redesigns before finally settling on their final product – a two-legged behemoth with a catlike leg structure. This monster can normally be found crouching, which makes him smaller than Godzilla, but it towers over even the Big G himself when it stands erect.
The monster looks pretty well designed and is a worthy addition to the line-up of monsters under Toho’s belt. Godzilla: Unleashed looks to be one hell of a game, and is slated to be out this year on the PSP, Wii, and Nintendo DS.
