One cannot doubt the effect that the Gran Turismo series has had on the world of racing games. With the upcoming release of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, gamers will be treated to a documentary that seeks to capture the spirit of the GT franchise that was set by its creator, Kazunori Yamauchi.

The documentary was created by Greg Harvey, creative director at WebridesTV.com. The documentary is aptly named “Beyond the Apex,” and features a behind-the-scenes look at the franchise. The clip took four months of filming and editing, but the ordeal seems worth it as we are taken on a scenic spin.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be released this April 17 in the US. In the meantime, here’s a teaser trailer of the documentary that will be included in the game’s Blu-ray disc:
