Grand Prize Winner of the 2006 Independent Games Festival – Darwinia

Immediately preceding the Game Developers Choice Awards, Darwinia took front and center by winning the 20 000 Seumas McHally Grand Prize.  This retro-stylish action-strategy created by Introversion Software also walked away with the Technical Excellence and Innovation in Visual Arts awards.  The British led team disturbs Darwinia using ValveÂ’s Steam service and were thrilled to take the top prize.

Braid, Number NoneÂ’s innovative time-manipulation platform won Innovation in Game Design.  Weird Worlds: Return To Infinite Space, a short-game about space exploration by Digital Eel won Innovation in Audio.  Dad ‘N Me by Dan Paladin and Tom Fulp won Best Web Browser Game for this stylish flash game.  GameSpotÂ’s Audience Award was won by French strategy-MMO Dofus.  RabidLabÂ’s Dodge That Anvil, received the $5,000 AdultSwim.com Award.

The first-ever Modding Competition winners: Dystopia for best Half-Life 2 mod, and Path Of Vengeance for best Unreal Tournament 2004 mod.  Rose Of Eternity – Chapter 1, a unique console-RPG won for Best Neverwinter Nights Mod, and Last Man Standing Co-Op won for best Doom 3 Mod.

As the Brits of Introversion Software so aptly demonstrated with fits of on-stage euphoria, a good time was had by all.
