Guild Wars analyst believes Melandru is God of GvG

The Guild Wars metagame changed radically when Nightfall was released. Tons of new skills and a couple of new characters make for a more demanding PvP gameplay. Since the dervish was introduced, players have tried and experimented all sorts of builds to make the most efficient scythe-wielding, transforming dude. Christian Bellisford, an established GW critic shares his views on the gods the dervish turned into.

Bellisford believes that nothing compares to Avatar of Melandru at the moment. Only through hexes and a proper strategy can you win against this havoc-wreaking god of nature.

First off, Grenth, the god of death. Back when Night Fall was still new, you’d see Grenth dervishes in huge numbers at the arenas. As Bellisford says, this avatar easily took care of strong monk enchantments that made it easy to take a kill. Unfortunately, like most melee characters, they were easy to disable. A single Blinding Flash would make them see darkness and fail to hit.

Next up is god of life, Dwayna. This avatar can hold on its own, able to gain health and remove a hex when using a skill. While it might be a good solo, it doesn’t synergize much with a team in GvG. Good for split, but not much survivability as Melandru or Balthazar

Balthazar, the god of war ain’t exactly Kratos. The bonus armor and speed are pretty nifty. He also does holy damage which is more difficult to resist than other damage types, but it’s easy to ignore a tank during GvG. Bellisford suggests that they can work as body blockers and NPC killers, though.

Lyssa, the patron of mind and spirit, gets extra energy and bonus damage against foes using skills. While it’s not very easy to get into the enemy’s backline during GvG, Lyssa can be pretty effective in arenas as Bellisford says.

Finally, the god of nature that gets most play time during GvG: Melandru.  This guy gets bonus HP, immunity to conditions, and earth damage. Simply put, a dervish in Melandru form can just run to the enemy backline and wreak havoc. While players are starting to put hexes in their build to counter, it’s still very effective as it can use Reaper’s Sweep to make foes fragile without suffering the penalty

To sum it up, Bellisford concludes that nothing compares to Avatar of Melandru and only hex snares with proper strategy can stop it. For the full analysis, check out our source link below.
