Guild Wars Hits 2 Million Mark

GWArenaNet and NCSoft announced that as of today, the Guild Wars franchise has sold over two million units. Sales data shows that Guild Wars Factions was also the best selling PC game in North America last month. According to Bob McKenzie, Senior VP of Marketing for Gamestop, Inc., “The highly successful release of Guild Wars Factions has solidified the Guild Wars franchise as a mainstay with gamers.”

GW has come a long way since its initial launch little more than a year ago, when it revolutionized the online gaming world, quickly becoming a favorite with MMO players. According to ArenaNet co-founder Patrick Wyatt, they do not plan to rest on their laurels: “ArenaNet continues to take chances in both game design and business model, and itÂ’s great to have the fans respond so enthusiastically right out of the gate with Guild Wars Factions,”  he says, adding  “Our fans have been overwhelmingly supportive of Guild Wars, and we will continue to make the Guild Wars franchise bigger and better with each release.”

Currently, there are over 7000 guilds worldwide currently competing in the Guild Wars Factions Tournament. The finalists will be flown to Leipzig, Germany in August, where more than $100,000 in cash and prizes will be at stake. Tournament rules are available at the official GW website.
