They'll be dead if you play well - Image 1Those who’ve faced the best in NCsoft‘s Guild Wars would know that the key element in high level Guild versus Guild (GvG) play is none other than solid communication. Employing a tried and tested build can only reach limited success, which means having capable mesmers and rangers in the midline as discussed by previous State of the Game articles, is not enough to gain that edge necessary for victory.

In the most recent edition of Guild Wars‘ State of the Game, veteran player Mark Yu from Delta Formation [DF] shared valuable tips regarding midline coordination that is crucial if midline players are to shut down the opposing guild. While taking note of what should be in skill bars of mesmers and rangers, he stressed out how determining which targets carry threatening spells is more important.

The keyword is “targeting communication” – the ability of midline members to put each other on the same page. Through efficient communication, enemy key skills can be disabled to increase damage output and shield your own guild from pressure.

Mesmers and rangers are advised to call out their targets, tell the team what skills are interrupted or diverted, and make sure no energy is wasted on a single target.

When it is clear who’ll stop enemy nukes or delay Aegis enchantments, the midline is expected to notify everyone else if opposing monks are running out of gas or the enemy guild is suffering from cooldowns due to interrupts. The perfect time to go in for the kill is indeed after shutdowns managed to give your crew the advantage.
