With cel-shaded graphics that retain the semi-realistic appeal of the hit Japanese show, Hajime no Ippo: Victorious Spirits seeks to bring to the Sony PSP some frenetic boxing fun. Along with the usual punch, feint, block-based mechanics, special moves ranging from furious flurries to “the Dempsey Roll” are in store. The momentum can shift with just one shot in this rendition of the squared circle, so keep your guard up and protect yourself at all times.
Hajime no Ippo: Victorious Spirits tells the story of Ippo Makunochi, a timid high school student bullied in school. Battered and bloodied by his school’s resident bullies on an almost daily basis, Ippo is one day saved by a champion Boxer named Takamura. The rest is then history as Ippo decides that he wants to learn how to box and sets on a rampage to become Japan’s best fighter.
