Halo 2 to Halo 3 Master Chief Comparison
Club Skill has done a comparison of the Halo 2/Halo 3 Master Chiefs. What I’m going to do is add to this comparison as some of their points are off. For example in the first comparison you do obviously see a difference in armour colour, but the first shot is of a Spartan and the second is of Master Chief, though notice things such as the jagged edges, the blocky neck, and the simulated bump mapped indents in the armour.
In the second comparison picture (above) we see dynamic reflections in the new Halo 3’s visor where as the Halo 2 visor is simply some white light made to look important. The jagged edges are even more apparent here, especially on the chest plate. Even minor things such as the flash light bulbs on Master Chief’s helmet have been improved upon in detail, notice how they’re now more round and shiny. Notice the blurry black under-armour on the Halo 2 Master Chief. Also notice how, if you look closely, the armor on the Halo 2 Master Chief looks blurry, but the armor on the Halo 3 Maste Chief looks clear and well textured.
If this pattern continues we’ll be in for a treat with Bungie’s new installment – just imagine a world full of perfectly reflective grass, fields where you can see every pebble and weed, vehicles with rust and dynamic damage, guns that jam and clog, armor that you need to repair over time and so on. If Bungie continues the trend of what’s shown in the trailer the next Halo installment will be an amazing experience, especially in HD.
I’ll leave you with a side by side of the new and old Master Chief renders. This difference is…well…black and white – hahaha.
