Halo Graphic Novel for Comic Book Fans

Instead of addressing rumors about Halo 3 being titled Forerunner or discussing the idea of a Halo MMOFPS, this week’s Bungie Weekly Update was all about HGN – the Halo Graphic Novel. This 128 page comic book includes an anthology of stories with a few short tales as well and will be available sometime in July of this year. In case you couldn’t figure it out for yourself, the developers at Bungie are great at making games, not comic books, so they hired an all-star cast of artists and writers to get the job done. Some professional talent has been mixed in with Bungie artists, and they even managed to get a hold of Stan Lee, the creator of Marvel Comics.

Surprisingly enough, this project has been going on for over half a year, yet the details are just beginning to emerge. At the moment the comic is supposedly 95% percent complete, so the pictures provided are close to what you should expect in the final version of this high quality hardcover graphic novel being published by Marvel. Master Chief will encounter a variety of adventures along the way, from routine armor testing sessions going horribly wrong to fighting off a surprise attack from a Flood infestation. One thing’s for sure, a comic book with pictures will be a lot more fun to read than a boring narrative.

It’s easy to tell that this book will carry a high artistic value that’s all too uncommon these days. Comic books aren’t nearly as prolific as there were back in the day, but the nostalgic Bungie is going to deliver a visually entertaining story. Although critics won’t be mentioning this in the same breath as The Da Vinci Code, the HGN should be a smash hit in the Halo community. Bungie promised to reveal a few more sample pages before the book ships out, so expect to hear more on this novel in the upcoming weeks.
