Halo: Happy B-day, Master Chief!
This just in from Bungie, the developer dudes who’ve given us all that is good and fine in this world (Halo, duh): Today is a big day for them and the “Halo Nation” alike as they stand to celebrate the birthday of this roxxorz game franchise, November 15, 2006. And like with all celebrity birthday bashes, Bungie’s announced their itinerary behind the now 5-year-old Halo franchise:
Halo 3 commercial next month
Mark your calendars for this December 4th, as Bungie announces a worldwide broadcast of a new Halo 3 commercial. The big surprise here is that the whole ad will be done not in game graphics, but by CGI – think CGI movies like Advent Children. Third party developer Digital Domain will be handling this, with accompanying music done by Marty OÂ’Donnell – the music will be a clue to the tunes you’ll be hearing when Halo 3 launches.
Guys who miss out due to problems beyond their control (It’s a football night) can DL the commercial after it airs via Xbox Live. There’s also the next installment of Bungie’s “The Making of Xbox Live Marketplace”, which promises to explain more details on this campaign, and will treat you guys to a well-known character in Halo 3.
New Halo 2 Maps
Bungie’s also announced that they’re developing new maps for Halo 2, and while they’re not spilling the beans on this update, they’re letting us know that these maps will be downloadable next Spring. The bad news is that these maps aren’t free – remember that it’s Microsoft that’s gonna have the final word on pricing (ouch).
Halo 3 Open Beta
This one’s sure to turn heads: Bungie’s also announced that next Spring, Halofans will get a chance to be able play Halo 3 before it’s officially releasedby way of an Xbox Live Beta version. Players will work closely with the dev team to help streamline this game, so stay alert for future updates for this release.
Other mentionables to wait for:
Bungie’s also telling us to keep our eyes peeled, and ears on the ground for two projects in the works: The Bungie-Peter Jackson (Yes, LOTR Peter Jackson) collaboration project, and Ensemble’s Halo Wars. Lack the patience for these two long-term devs? Bungie’s also announcing announcing the Window port for Halo 2 coming up early next year.
That’s the gist of what we can expect for now. Stay tuned for any updates on the Master Chief‘s special day.
