Halo Wars sets the tone with Wwise
Expectations are always high when you’ve started off big so Ensemble studios has recently announced that it has tapped the sound software of Audiokinetics called Wwise (Waveworld Interactive Sound Engine) for the development of its highly anticipated RTS Halo Wars.
The game is said to be set in a time frame before the original Halo‘s story. It documents the events leading to the first point of contact by humans with the evil Covenant alien race. Thus, fighting through the game should take players somewhere near the start of the original plot.
Kevin McMullan, Music/Sound Lead of Ensemble says that the software is playing a big role in the development and “the first thing that stood out for us about Wwise was just how well it was designed. Because the support team was so open, responsive and helpful, the integration of Wwise into our development environment was incredibly smooth and easy.”
In related news, Ensemble is also reportedly developing a real-time strategy spin-off of Halo. Anticipation is building up because the developer is the same team responsible for the RTS milestone Age of Empires.
