Harmonix confirms new peripheral for Rock Band 2

Ever wonder what that second input is on the upgraded Rock Band 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2) drum kit? Before, Harmonix said it was for a second kick pedal. Today, they’re saying they weren’t exactly being honest with us.

Word on a potential new peripheral for Rock Band 2 was confirmed via a review guide that OXM UK got with their complimentary Rock Band 2 copy from Harmonix. The guide contained a note saying,

The Rock Band 2 drum set has a second input on it (the bottom one with the orange ring) that is an expansion port. It was stated in prior interviews/demos that this input was a jack for the second kick pedal, which is not the case.

So what’s going into the input? Extra Cymbals? A keyboard? Harmonix isn’t saying yet.
