Heard Through the Netvine: Wii To Launch Surprise Attack on Japan?
The Wii launch dates, which stretches from late September to early November, remain suspect but EGM editor Shane Bettenhausen thinks Nintendo is gearing up for a surprise launch in Japan. Sooner not later. He based his fearless prediction not on some Nostradamus code but on the following RUMORS:
1. Nintendo will hold an “event the week” at the Tokyo Game Show. Nintendo and various third parties have already talked about this event.
2. Nintendo already has the Wii in retail-mode production and they have a history of launching a console even with only a tiny handful of first-party games.
3. Japan is hungry for the Wii. Nintendo has sold over 9 million DS machines in Japan (more than the total number of PSPs sold worldwide) and all of those consumers are potential Wii buyers. So why wait for things to cool down before Wii strikes?
4. Expect Nintendo to have their event, announce the official Wii price and announce the availability of the Wii in Japan starting September 22 the first day of TGS.
But those are all rumors for now and this is Bettenhausen’s Theory on the Wii Launch. Time will tell if Bettenhausen could be the Gaming World’s Nostradamus.
