After seeing a Wii Virtual Console release last year, a remake of Hewson’s classic puzzler / platformer Nebulus (aka Tower Toppler) has now made an appearance on the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch.

This remake of the 1987 game is called Power Toppler and is from Silver Software. It features the basic improvements that remakes usually get: better graphics, some sound effects, 16 towers (the original had 8), and a new control scheme that uses the iPhone’s touch screen.

What hasn’t changed is that your character (who is now a robot instead of the original’s Pogo) still starts from the base of a circular tower. The goal is to make it to the top by using a system of tunnels and elevators while dodging guards and cracked tiles. Here’s a video of the first stage to acquaint you with the gameplay:

Power Toppler is now available on the App Store for US$ 1.99.
