Hitachi And Mitsubishi Coming Out With HD DVD-R
HD DVDs may have been let out the next-gen media gates before Blu-rays but the latter sure beat them to coming up with burners. The HD DVD format is now following along the inexplicable path taken by its competition – releasing the recordable media before the burners.
Hitachi and Mitsubishi are releasing the 15GB HD DVD-R media in Japan this coming July 5, with the RW and dual-layer versions coming later this summer. The HD DVD-R will be priced at $17.75, not too good a price considering that $20 Blu-ray discs hold 25GB.
There are no announcements of 2x HD DVD discs yet, but hopefully they’ll be coming in the future; or else, these HD DVD discs will run along at half the speed of their Blu-ray counterparts.
