HMV exec reports Wii demand still high - Image 1According to HMV, the Wii is still practically flying off store shelves as consumer demand for the console stays at an all-time high. If this trend continues, supply for the holiday season will surely run out.

But on the upside, game sales have been rising as well, and not just Nintendo’s first-party titles. Tim Ellis says that third-party games are now racking up sales numbers.

Since it first came out last year, the Wii has seen a warm welcome from the gaming public with sustained high sales numbers throughout the year. According to a recent report by HMV, the Wii is still practically flying off store shelves up to now as consumer demand for the console elevates. And that’s not counting Nintendo expectations for Wii shortages this holiday season.

According to Tim Ellis, HMV’s head of games, in a recent interview, demand for the console is so high at the moment that frustration troubles retailers and customers alike. Supplies simply can not keep up with the public demand for the console.

This would’ve easily exacerbated the present situation. But Ellis says that HMV feels they’ve been getting their fair share of the shipments, and that’s been fine with them. Also, news of sky rocketing sales is always great to all concerned.

On a more positive note, Nintendo is also enjoying healthy game sales with their big game titles like Super Mario Galaxy and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess caused by massive Wii sales. On the other hand, third-party developers are also gradually contributing to the Wii’s software sales success with Sega‘s Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Electronic ArtsBoogie, 505 GamesCooking Mama, and Ubisoft‘s with My Word Coach.
