Homebrew game: 4^2 (Four-square)
coolguy5678, the developer behind the Unofficial CSPSP Editor, visited the QJ.NET Forums earlier to announce the release of 4^2 for the PSP. Some of you may remember trying the outdoor version of this game a while back, so this could make for an interesting play-through. Details on how it works are available in the full article.

Developer coolguy5678, also the creator of the Unofficial CSPSP Editor, visited the QJ.NET Forums earlier to announce the release of 4². As its name implies, this homebrew is a PSP port of the popular Four Square ball game some of you may remember playing.
There are four players to this game, with each getting assigned a square. Your objective to hit a ball so that it bounces once in your square before going into the square of another player. If you make a mistake, you’re out, and the player from a lower square than you moves up to take your place. A new player then takes the bottom-ranking square.
The highest ranking square is the king square, which is located on the top left of the screen. You’ll be playing as a blue player, and you’ll actually earn double points if you managed to fight your way to the top two squares.
The ball will travel in the direction your player’s cone is pointed. Timing your charge is important, as releasing X while the ball is too close to your sprite will cause it to travel much slower. As for 4^2’s controls:
- Use the analog/or d-pad to move.
- Hold X to charge up your shot.
- Release X when the ball is near you to hit it.
4^2 is coolguy5678’s entry for the ongoing Scenery Beta 2008 International Homebrew Showcase. The event is expected to draw in a wide assortment of interesting homebrew apps and games, so you may want to keep an eye out in case more developers announce their own entries in the near future.
